Reading Partners
Nov. 4th, 2005 04:41 pmSo today was my first day as a 'better reading partner' at my local primary school.
Basically...i supervise 2 children for 15 weeks, and help them with their reading and their spelling. Most parents these days don't have time every evening to listen to their children read, while doing the 15 million jobs that need doing. I know. I've watched my parents struggle to help my brothers with dyslexia, dyspraxia and ADHD, as well as listening to my younger sister read.
So...i get to help children! I met my 2 'charges' today. They are 8 years old, and their names are Daniel and Liam. Liam is the nephew of Steve who resigned from work a couple of weeks ago (Small world). And i love it! I have a box with my name on, and reading schemes, and dice, book sets and everything! And the boys are lovely! *Major squeeing*
I went down WHSmith to buy a notepad for progress notes and spelling lists...and i cant wait for next friday!
Oh...and all the Mckay/Sheppard stuff i've read is soooo good!
